Golf Safety - Guidelines on Avoiding Injuries at the Course

Golf is a safe sport but there are safety hazards that hide in plain sight at golf courses and when you're not careful enough you could end up in serious trouble hence you have to learn of golf safety guidelines before you venture out. The safety measures mentioned here are really very simple stuff and are even common sense things yet many have had accidents at the course due to not being careful and not heeding warning signs, and not using common sense.

Looking out for others

This golf safety tip involves first shouting the word 'fore' when you hit the ball and realize it's veered from its intended path. You do this to warn those in front so that they can avoid being hit by that projectile flying above.

The next item in our golf safety rules is about practice swings. When you do this, you can only do it once because there are others waiting for their turn to hit balls.

Another golf safety item to remember is that practice swings are for balls not for people otherwise you'd send flying grass, dirt, or sand onto the face of other players. Lastly, never hit your ball until you are certain that everybody is safely away from the ball's intended path.

There is a good chance that there is a slow group ahead of you, you will feel your patience running out and be tempted to swing some balls their way. Didn't I just tell you not to aim at other people? Whenever you feel this, take some deep breaths and remind yourself that you could injure others with what you intend to do.

Looking after yourself

Golfers are humans and you can't always rely on them to do their part in enforcing golf safety rules therefore to be safe you must also take precautions by watching out for flying balls. When someone is preparing to take a swing whether its for practice or not, you should stay at a considerably safe distance to avoid getting hit by the club.

When you try to retrieve your balls you should be extra careful as there may be other balls flying your way especially if you are near an adjoining fairway. When you hear someone shout 'fore' don't look for the ball by all means hide behind your bag, cart, behind the trees, crouch, lay low, and cover your head.

Golf Cart Safety

There's no license needed to drive a golf cart just that you know how to drive. For golf safety purposes these vehicles will usually have safety warnings but despite that most accidents that happen at the golf course are caused by irresponsible use of these vehicles so don't just read the safety rules, follow directions to the dot.

The golf course is a tempting place to practice your off road driving skills, and your need for speed. Golf cart safety tells you, you shouldn't because people could come your way unexpectedly; they were not expecting you'd be on their path because there are cart paths after all.

Also if you drive too fast and had to suddenly brake or you make sharp turns, there is a risk that you'd go flying because these vehicles have no safety belts. Until you and you're partner are comfortably seated, never attempt to drive.

Golf safety involves watching out for other golf carts at intersections and paths around the clubhouse, the dangers of colliding with another cart are very real and so are the injuries that you will potentially suffer.

The Must-Dos in Golf Training

Golf, one of the most elite sports that have caught on popularity with the increasing number of golf clubs, investments in the sports, popularity of the stars and ofcourse the challenges involved. Many people who are new to the sport look for proper training and guidance and if you are one of them this piece is written for you. Here are some tips to achieve the best golf training possible.

To explore the tricks involved in best golf training we need to first understand some basics like the types of matches that are played. The basic types are:

1.Match Play: Where two players contest against each other,

2.Stroke Play: Played with multiple players and the one with the lowest score wins.

3.Skin Game: Played for prize money where golfers compete on each hole, as a separate contest

4.Stableford: In this form a player gains points for scores achieved on each hole of the round.

5.Team Play: As the name suggests is a team game with multiple players and has different forms, i.e. Foursome, Four-ball, Greensome, Scramble etc.

Apart from learning golf from a trainer on the field, you can avail several DVDs, CDs, books, journals etc, for achieving a good training in golf. But for a getting the best golf training the best pro golf training aid is required. Here are some such training aids that are required for proper golf training.

Golf Practice Net - 4 Wonderful Reasons For Having One

Ever felt like swinging at the golf ball but couldn't be bothered to head out to the range or just didn't have the opportunity?

Looking for a great way to keep the kids entertained which is fun and uses up their amazing energy levels?

A Golf Practice Net or as sometimes called golf hitting nets really are a great way to improve your golf swing at your own convenience or just have bags of fun! Lets look at 4 reasons why this is so!

1. Great fun for all the family (and friends):

This one is a real favourite of mine! A golf hitting net can be used by everyone which is a great way to involve your family and friends in the thing you love doing or the sport they love doing...because you can use a golf practice net for soccer, baseball, softball, football and any other idea you may have- what a hit with the kids!

2. Improve your game at home:

When you feel like spending a short time swinging at the golf ball to work on your swing, release the days tension or just occupy yourself for a short time without leaving the home, this is where a golf practice net comes in handy.

An advantage of using a golf practice net is that you can work out problems you have had on the course in the comfort of your home.

You may have used a golf training aid or had a lesson with the golf pro and every one knows the more you practice a skill the better you will become and much sooner. You can always step up to your golf practice net at any time even for a few minutes as many times a day!

3. Save on fuel and range costs:

Another good benefit of a golf practice net- especially during these difficult financial times is you get to save on fuel and golf range costs. That can't be bad when you think of a cost of a bucket of balls and the drive to and fro, plus if you're like me, the cost of a drive thru meal on the way...and sometimes on the way back too!

4. Poor weather:

Yes, you did read this correct ...poor weather! But for anyone who wishes to work on their swing during a storm, maybe Dr Phil could benefit you.

But seriously, you can even use a golf practice net indoors. They are easily assembled and disassembled and are very safe to use indoors...even for the worlds worst golfer...they are designed for safety.

And if Dr Phil couldn't help you out and you still want to practice during storms, then rest assured, golf hitting nets are made to withstand inclement weather....they are weather durable.

So if you get to feeling a little lazy sometimes like me, happy to save on fuel and range costs like me, or want to involve the whole family in great fun activities at home which I find so much fun...then you can't go wrong getting yourself a golf practice net. They also come with all weather durable bags to protect them if in storage or transit.

But don't worry about redecorating the garden with your swing as you usually get a golf mat thrown into the package or you can purchase one for just a few dollars.

And if its just your chipping that you need to work on....get yourself a golf chipping net instead which you can pick up for again a few dollars.

Wishing you the greatest success on and off the course...J Mcdoogle

Golf Fitness 101

Tiger Woods has clearly taken the game of golf to a whole new level with his obvious focus on fitness. Prior to Tiger, only a handful of PGA Tour players lifted weights with the goal of increasing strength significantly, and none of these players were major championship winners. Bill Glasson and Keith Clearwater come to mind. A few players, such as Gary Player and Greg Norman did focus on keeping in shape and maintaining a lean body, but neither bulked up the way Tiger has.

Following Tiger's lead, we have seen a few more muscular golfers out on tour, including Adam Scott, Camillo Villegas, and now even Phil Mickelson has toned up his body a bit.

Remember though, you don't really need to work out as hard as Tiger to add significant distance. He works that hard because golf is how he makes his living, and he realizes how hard the golf swing can be on the body. Can you imagine Tiger coming back from his knee surgery if he had the body of John Daly? His career would be over! (Of course, Tiger would never have been as successful as he is now if he looked like John Daly!)

For the normal amateur play, it IS necessary to work your whole body, rather than do a few reps of some so-called golf specific exercise. I have read quite a few golf related websites articles that talk about these exercises, and they simply won't do the job. You'd be better off spending $500 for a new driver to help you gain extra yardage rather than try some gimmicky exercise. Take it from a veteran, competitive golfer and athlete, these gimmicks don't work. If they did, don't you think you would see some big name golfers promoting it?

Physiological and bio-mechanical studies indicate that all of the major muscle groups get involved in the golf swing at some point during the swing, so it is definitely necessary to work out the entire body. However, we are not looking to get as big as a linebacker! We are simply looking to strengthen the entire body to have a more effective golf swing.

As I have mentioned, the golf swing is pretty tough on the human body. The human body was not meant to twist in the fashion of the golf swing as often as it takes to play and practice this game well. As a result, the golf swing can result in a lot of wear and tear. That is another reason why it is necessary to work the ENTIRE body, not just a few specific muscles or muscle groups.

However, if I had to choose which group of muscles to work by themselves, it would be the legs. They are the foundation, and without a strong foundation, the rest of the swing will collapse. Therefore, if your time is limited, at the very least, try to work on strengthening your legs.

When you begin your search for a golf fitness routine, it is important to consider the competitive experience of the trainer/instructor, as well as their experience with fitness training. My own personal amateur competitive career in golf spanned 20 years. I was also a competitive swimmer, and most recently I achieved the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt in the art of Pai Lum Kung Fu. So, I know quite a bit about the role of fitness in sports, especially golf!

Kung Fu is another activity that can result in a lot of wear and tear on the body, and it demands significant strength and flexibility to perform it well, just like the golf swing. With that in mind, a strength and fitness routine I have put together is based upon my training in Kung Fu. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home without any weights or other special equipment. Furthermore, a solid routine may be completed in as little as 15-20 minutes per day, six days per week.

By employing a solid fitness routine into your golf practice, I guarantee you will see an improvement in your game!

Over the Top Golf Swing

When you are playing golf the over the top golf stroke can be one of the most frustrating strokes for you to make. You work harder and harder every time to stop that annoying rounding of the shoulders with no results. Learning what an over the top golf stroke consists of may be the key to stopping this frustrating and sometimes embarrassing stroke.

When you golf there is a line that golfers follow between the back swing to the ball this line is called the plane of swing. When you do an incorrect golf swing this path is either underneath this plane or over the plane. This will cause your shoulders to round causing in an overstrike. This is usually one of the harder golf errors to correct.

The causes of an over the top golf swing can be a bad fault that causes your out swing to be off center. When you are at the top of your swing there is a slight pause before coming down to strike your ball, during this pause your brain mentally senses whether you are in the right position which causes you to subconsciously shift a little either direction causing your swing to go over the top.

Another cause of an over the top golf swing is if during this pause in swing your mind tells your body to make certain adjustments. If you swing too much under the swing plane your brain should adjust but sometimes it does not which will then cause the over swing.

There are two very different ways to conquer your golf swing. The first way entails an immediate fix while the other deals with a permanent one. When you are attempting the quick cure, you need to be sure that when you are at the top of the golf swing you bring the club in slowly to hit the ball. The permanent cure is a little more involved and requires lots of practice. In order to achieve a permanent fix most golfers turn to a professional trainer. These trainers can help you to learn how to control your golf swing. Either choice is yours but most avid golfers choose the permanent fix.

Knowing what an over the top golf swing will make your shot look like, you can fix the problem, in most cases, fix the problem without lessons. If not find a golf professional trainer near you.

Golf Club Distances - Knowing the Distance of Your Clubs

When it comes to their distance learning to golf clubs and you may find that it was not easy to get less. The Caddy has a duty to tell you what club to use or even say the safest to use during your current situation. If you coach, you can look around and find all the golf club. They are traps that can give you the sand club to use. Golf club distances or instruments to be acquired by GPS distanceCaddies.

Learning how to swing your golf club could be one of the hardest steps for any golfer to learn. It is going to take time to learn how to use the right club during the right situation. Different clubs have certain limits on distances. If you want to measure your drive, then consider using GPS tracking balls.

You can find them in any sport shop or online. These GPS balls can calculate the distance of the drive and where to find the golf ball. If you have a Personal computer or laptop, the GPS, which can show performance chipped ball tracks and all you need to know to know the ball.

Today, many people track their statistics on their computer from this GPS tracker and even better for learning, what needs improvement. Although caddies can help calculate the distance, the GPS-up with a little 'more accurate than before.

Every golf club has use for the golf course, the funds are his, you must know how to make the mostclub.

Nine iron or eight iron can be a good choice for long drives, which one will you choose? That can be determined with the distance of your drive. GPS trackers have always been a good way to finding out the accurate distance of each drive. You can write or input the golf club you are using and calculate the distance to see which club can do better in different areas of the course.

When using the putter, you need to watch closely with each dip or hill that encounters your ball going into the whole. If you're looking for improvement in your golfing, we advise learning some tips from trainers and using GPS tracking equipment. Practice makes perfect and soon, before you know it the drive distance of your game will get better. Golf club distance can be taught online or offline through reading about golfing or learn the basic way called hands on experience.

Golf Course Driving Range Architects

Kevin, tell us - what are the most important considerations when someone is setting up a driving range? Frequently, when people approach us about designing a driving range they are just thinking about the range. When we meet with our clients, we try to help them understand that it may make sense to think about this as more than just a driving range. Ideally it should be a golf learning center. This can include a putting green, some practice bunkers, possibly a place for some indoor lessons.

We try to help them understand that, as a marketing tool, the nicer your practice facility is the better positioned you will be at attracting new members, especially if you are a private club. It really is a benefit and an asset. If we can do something more than just a driving range, it will serve the golf course well.

What are the kinds of things you look at when setting up an exceptional driving range? In this day and age, with the developments of technology, we generally have to set up the range to be about 330 yards long because people are simply driving the ball that much farther these days.

So we start with a driving range, then we like to set up an area at the back of the tee where we can set up mats. This is helpful because sometimes you may need to work on the driving area and you might want the turf to be able to recuperate.

We also like to see a good putting area that is about 10,000 - 15,000 square feet.

We also encourage some sort of short game facility. That could be another practice green that would have some chipping areas, some practice bunkers, something that you could hit something 20 - 60 yards.

We generally try to provide some sort of a facility that would allow you to practice all aspects of the game, including: driving, chipping, putting and sand shots.

I'm sure safety has to be an important consideration when you are setting these up? Orientation and having adequate space are two important considerations.. We generally would not want to have a driving range that would have other high traffic areas such as a golf hole or the clubhouse or houses on the right side of the range, the slice side of the hole. So we always try to separate that a little bit.

What about driving range nets? Whenever possible, we try to put the practice facility where we don't have to use nets. Nets can be quite expensive and not particularly attractive so we avoid them whenever possible.

What about how the range stalls are set up and the design of actual facility? There's some common sense issues like circulation on and around the teeing area, things that we do about radiusing the tee (pointing the tee a little left of center), looking at the overall orientation, the prevailing winds, the rising or the setting sun. Ideally we would like to set the range up to the northeast - we don't like it pointing directly to the east or the west.

We also like to set up some target greens on the range so that there is something interesting for people to aim for.

What about considerations for the actual landing area? There can be problems with the golf balls getting beat up if the surface of the driving range is not in good condition. Problems like rocky surfaces, poor drainage, etc.

This is really a function of turf quality and maintenance and proper construction. You want to make sure that rocks and debris are removed before you put the seed in the ground. You need to also make sure that you have a quality stand of grass out there. Irrigation, fertilizer, maintenance and drainage are all important to make sure you have good healthy turf.

Any other considerations that a developer should consider when they are developing a driving range? I would suggest that if people are considering building a practice facility they should find themselves an architect to work through the process of exploring their options. I would encourage them to get detailed plans and work out all the details of drainage and safety issues.
